2 Setting Up Site Studio Designer on Client Computers

This section explains the process of setting up Site Studio Designer 11gR1 on client computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. It covers these topics:

2.1 About Designer

Site Studio Designer provides a development environment in which a single individual (the site designer) can create, design, manage, and distribute Site Studio Web sites. The designer is typically a webmaster, a web developer, a site administrator, or someone in a similar position.

Once a site has been created in Designer, it can be handed off to site managers and contributors, who can create and maintain the Web site content. Typically, one designer works with multiple managers and contributors.

2.2 System Requirements

The system requirements for the Site Studio Designer application are as follows:

  • Windows XP (SP2 or higher), Windows Vista (SP1or higher), Windows 2003 Server (SP2 or higher), Windows 2003 Server R2, Windows Server 2008 (SP1 or higher), Windows 7 operating systems.

  • Access to the Oracle Content Server running the Site Studio component.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher. (You can use Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 or higher to view the resulting web pages.)

2.3 Installing Designer

To install the Site Studio Designer application, perform these tasks:

  1. Find the Site Studio Designer installer on the My Downloads page in the content server web interface (under My Content Server).

If you do not have access to an Oracle Content Server 11gR1 instance, contact your system administrator for instructions on where to obtain the client software installer for Site Studio Designer.

  2. After obtaining the client software, run the installer executable.

    The installation wizard is launched.

  3. On the Welcome screen, click Next to start the installation.

Note:

If you install Site Studio Designer 11gR1 on a computer that already has an earlier Designer version on it, the Designer 11gR1 application installs alongside the earlier version. The previous version of Designer is not removed. If you are installing the Designer 11gR1 application and an earlier 11gR1 Designer version is present, you will be prompted to uninstall the earlier version.

Note:

You need administrative rights to the computer to install Site Studio Designer. If you want to install Site Studio Designer on a system running Windows Vista with User Account Control (UAC) turned off, make sure that you install the application as a user with administrator privileges.

2.4 Uninstalling a Previous Version of Site Studio Designer

If a previous version of Site Studio Designer is already on your computer, you may want to uninstall it, since Site Studio Designer 11gR1 will install alongside the older version rather than on top of it.

To completely uninstall Site Studio Designer, complete these steps:

  3. Select Site Studio Designer.

  4. Do the following, depending on your operating system:

    • Windows Vista: Right-click and choose Uninstall.

The Site Studio Designer uninstall wizard is launched.
