Introduction

This collection of topics is intended for developers and users who require an in depth knowledge of the Oracle Unified Directory architecture. Reading these topics is not mandatory for an understanding of how to use the server. Rather, the topics provide information on how the server works, and on what is supported within the server.

Oracle Unified Directory can be configured as a directory server, a proxy server, or a replication gateway between Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition and Oracle Unified Directory. Note that this Architecture Reference currently covers the directory server architecture only. For a high level understanding of the proxy architecture, see the Oracle Fusion Middleware Deployment Planning Guide for Oracle Unified Directory. For an understanding of the replication gateway architecture, see Replicating Between Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition and Oracle Unified Directory in Oracle Fusion Middleware Administration Guide for Oracle Unified Directory.
