Troubleshooting an Issue With Oracle RAC

Troubleshooting an Issue With Oracle RAC

Problem: If you use Oracle RAC with Solaris Volume Manager for shared file systems, you might see a message that volumes are not available.

Solution: In response to this issue, you can configure the rac_maxdevretry parameter in the /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/defaults.conf file. By default, the rac_maxdevretry variable is set to 150 (5 minutes).

The items to take in account for adjusting this variable include:

In the following example /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/defaults.conf file, the time is shortened to 90 seconds (3 minutes).

trace
all = on
sam-sharefsd.options = all
sam-fsd.size = 10M
sam-sharefsd.size = 10M
endtrace
rac_maxdevretry = 90

This change was based on the following environment:

An example of this setting is included in the /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/examples/defaults.conf file.
