4.4 Upgrading Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition

This section describes the options available in Oracle JRockit Virtual Edtion to upgrade an existing virtual machine image or a configuration file to work with the current version of the Image Tool. The following topics describe the upgrading process:

4.4.1 Upgrading the Virtual Machine Image

Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition provides a command-line option (-u) to upgrade virtual machine images created by using the previous versions of the Image Tool.

Notes:

  • The -u (-upgrade) command does not work in the current release, Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition 2.0.0. Section D.2 describes a workaround to this issue.

  • Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition supports only a direct upgrade to the same type of virtual machine image. For example, if you are upgrading a virtual machine image that is created for 32-bit Oracle VM, you can upgrade it to an image that works on 32-bit Oracle VM, not 64-bit Oracle VM.

For more information about the --upgrade option, see -u (--upgrade) in Appendix A, "Image Tool Command-Line Option Reference."

4.4.2 Upgrading the Configuration File

Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition provides a command-line option (--upgrade-config) to upgrade a previous version of the configuration file to use with the latest version of the Image Tool.

For more information about the --upgrade-config option, see ---upgrade-config in Appendix A, "Image Tool Command-Line Option Reference."
