D.2 The Command-line Option for Upgrading a Virtual Machine Image does Not Work

The -u (--upgrade) option, which is used to upgrade an earlier version of the Virtual Machine Image, does not work in the current release (Release 2.0) of Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition.

Workaround

To upgrade a previous version of the virtual machine image, perform the following:

  1. Disassemble the virtual machine image that you want to upgrade. Use the -d (--disassemble) command-line option to disassemble an existing virtual machine image as described in Appendix A, "Image Tool Command-Line Option Reference."

  2. Upgrade the configuration file that you obtained after disassembling the virtual machine image. Use the ---upgrade-config option to upgrade the configuration file.

  3. Assemble the virtual machine image by using the new version of the Image Tool and the modified configuration file. See -a (--assemble) in Appendix A, "Image Tool Command-Line Option Reference."

    Note:

You must use the current version of the Oracle JRockit Virtual Edition binary file (jrockitve.bin) to assemble the virtual machine image.
