  • Display

5.1.1 What Is a System Time-Out?

Two types of time-outs occur on the system:

Type Description
Time-out of a program The system returns to a menu.
Exit from the system The system returns to the Sign On screen.

Both time-outs occur due to lack of activity. You should press any key occasionally to avoid a time-out. Your system operator controls the length of time before a time-out occurs.

5.1.2 Why Are System Time-Outs Set Up?

System time-outs are used for two reasons:

Reason Description
Security If you leave your computer unattended, the time-out prohibits anyone from using the system.
Operations Certain types of jobs require that no users access the system when the job is running. If you leave your computer for an extended period of time, the time-out allows the job to be run.

5.1.3 What Is a Display Time-Out?

After a predefined number of minutes, the monitor goes blank. Press any key or move the mouse to activate the system to return to the display.

Display time-outs save you the life of your monitor. The display time-outs are an optional setup for a terminal.
