Two types of time-outs occur on the system:
Type | Description |
---|---|
Time-out of a program | The system returns to a menu. |
Exit from the system | The system returns to the Sign On screen. |
Both time-outs occur due to lack of activity. You should press any key occasionally to avoid a time-out. Your system operator controls the length of time before a time-out occurs.
System time-outs are used for two reasons:
Reason | Description |
---|---|
Security | If you leave your computer unattended, the time-out prohibits anyone from using the system. |
Operations | Certain types of jobs require that no users access the system when the job is running. If you leave your computer for an extended period of time, the time-out allows the job to be run. |
