Understanding Ingredient Picking

Ingredient picking refers to the process of moving materials from one or more source locations and issuing them to a staging subinventory before they are consumed. This process is also called material staging to production. Firm Plan Orders (FPO) and lab batches with update inventory indicator set to No are not eligible for ingredient picking.

The use of the ingredient picking feature is optional and is designed to work with both Oracle Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and non-WMS organization. If you install WMS, then the following features are available:

Finding Ingredient Requirements for Picking

The Find Batches window enables you to enter selection criteria to find batches that have ingredient requirements.

Prerequisites

To find batches with ingredient requirements

  1. Navigate to the Find Batches window.

  2. Make no entries to search for all records. Enter a combination of any of the following search criteria in the Standard and Advanced tabs to narrow the search:

Standard

  1. Enter Batches as:

    • All to include unpicked and backordered batches. Default.

    • Backordered for batches that have backordered requirements only.

  2. Enter any of the following criteria in various fields to filter search results:

    Search Criteria Description
    From Batch To search for batches starting with this batch number.
    To Batch To search for batches between this batch number and batch number entered in the From Batch field.
    Operation To find batches that have open ingredient requirements for an operation.
    Version To find batches that have open ingredient requirements for a version of the operation.
    Product To find batches that produce a specific product.
    Ingredient To search for batches that use a specific ingredient.
    Days Forward Enter the number of days to consider requirements for the pick release.
    Material Requirement Date, From and To To search for batches that have ingredient requirements within a specific date range.
    Include Pending Select this option to search for pending batches.
    Include WIP Select this option to search for WIP batches.

Advanced

  1. Select any of the following Items:

    • Batch

    • Recipe Number

    • Recipe Version

    • Formula Number

    • Formula Version

    • Routing Number

    • Routing Version

    • Planned Start Date

    • Planned Completion Date

    • Actual Start Date

    • Product

    • Ingredient

  2. Condition enables you to select a comparison operator. Select one of the following Conditions for the item to build a relational expression:

    • Equal

    • Greater Than

    • Less Than

    • Greater or Equal

    • Less or Equal

    • Like

  3. The following conditions are available for queries based on dates:

    • Greater or Equal To Today + to generate a list of batches for which the date specified in the Item field is greater than or equal to the current date plus the value entered.

    • Greater or Equal To Today - to generate a list of batches for which the date specified in the Item field is greater than or equal to the current date minus the value entered.

    • Less or Equal To Today + to generate a list of batches for which the date specified in the Item field is less than or equal to the current date plus the value entered.

    • Less or Equal To Today - to generate a list of batches for which the date specified in the Item field is less than or equal to the current date minus the value entered.

    • Today to generate a list of batches for which the date specified in the Item field is equal to the current date.

  4. Enter a Value for the selected condition.

  5. Click Find.

  6. The following information appears in the Results section:

    Field Name Description
    Batch Displays the batch number.
    Status Displays the batch status.
    Plan Start Date Displays the planned start date for the batch.
    Actual Start Date Displays the actual start date for the batch.

Viewing the Batch List Summary

The Batch List Summary window displays the list of batches that meet the criteria entered in the Find Batches window.

Prerequisites

To view the batch list summary

  1. Navigate to the Find Batches window.

  2. Query batches as described in Finding Ingredient Requirements for Picking.

  3. Click Requirements.

  4. Click the Batch node.

  5. The following information displays:

    Field Name Description
    Batch Displays the batch number.
    Status Displays the batch status.
    Plan Start Date Displays the planned start date for the batch.
    Plan Completion Date Displays the planned completion date for the batch.
    Product Displays the name of the product produced by the batch.
    Plan Qty Displays the planned quantity of the product to be produced by the batch.
    Actual Qty Displays the actual quantity of the product produced.
    UOM Displays the unit of measure for the product.
    Actual Start Date Displays the actual start date for the batch.
    Recipe Displays the code for the recipe used in the batch.
    Recipe Version Displays the recipe version used in the batch.
    Recipe Description Displays brief description of the recipe.
    Formula Displays the code for the formula used in the batch.
    Formula Version Displays the formula version used in the batch.
    Formula Description Displays a brief description of the formula used in the batch.
    Routing Displays the code for the routing used in the batch.
    Routing Version Displays the routing version used in the batch.
    Routing Description Displays a brief description of the routing used in the batch.
  6. Use the results to perform picking as described in Picking Materials.

Viewing Batch Summary Information

The Batch Summary window lets you view the batch information.

Prerequisites

To view batch summary information

  1. Navigate to the Batch List summary window.

  2. Click the batch node for which you require the information.

  3. The following information displays:

    Field Name Description
    Batch Displays the batch number.
    Plan Start Date Displays the planned start date for the batch.
    Plan Completion Date Displays the planned completion date for the batch.
    Product Displays the name of the product produced by the batch.
    Plan Qty Displays the planned quantity of the product to produce by the batch.
    Actual Qty Displays the actual quantity of the product produced.
    UOM Displays the unit of measure for the product.
    Actual Start Date Displays the actual start date for the batch.
    Recipe Displays the code for the recipe used in the batch.
    Recipe Version Displays the recipe version used in the batch.
    Recipe Description Displays brief description of the recipe.
    Formula Displays the code for the formula used in the batch.
    Formula Version Displays the formula version used in the batch.
    Formula Description Displays a brief description of the formula used in the batch.
    Routing Displays the code for the routing used in the batch.
    Routing Version Displays the routing version used in the batch.
    Routing Description Displays a brief description of the routing used in the batch.

Picking Material

Pick material for batches using the Batch List Summary window. A move order is created when you pick material. You can also plan tasks and create pick slips based on pick slip grouping rules.

Refer to the Oracle Inventory User's Guide and the Oracle Warehouse Management User's Guide for information on move orders, pick slip grouping rules, and creating tasks.

To pick material for a batch

  1. Navigate to the Batch List summary window.

  2. Select Include to select the batch that you want to pick material for. When you select the batch, move orders are created for all the ingredients of the batch, that need to be moved to the supply subinventory. You cannot delete selected ingredients from a batch.

  3. Enter a Pick Slip Grouping Rule.

  4. Select Print Pick Slips to automatically submit a request to print the Pick Slip report.

  5. Select Plan Tasks to create picking tasks for Oracle Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to release the tasks. This is not enabled for non-WMS organizations.

  6. Click Pick Material. When the pick release is complete a message displays the move order number.

    If partial allocation occurs due to unavailable inventory, then the following message displays:

    “Material requirements for some of the selected ingredients could not be fully allocated.”

    A backorder is created for the remaining quantities of the ingredients. You can perform repicking for these ingredients by querying batches with backorders. Refer to Finding Ingredient Requirements for Picking for more information.

  7. Click OK.

Viewing the Ingredient Summary

The Ingredient Summary window enables you to view the ingredient information for a specific batch.

To view the ingredient summary

  1. Navigate to the batch to view ingredient information.

  2. Click the required ingredient.

  3. The following information displays:

    Field Name Description
    Line Displays the number of the ingredient line containing the item.
    Item Displays the item number.
    Revision Displays the revision of the item used.
    Item Description Displays a brief description of the item.
    Step Displays the batch step number associated to the ingredient.
    Operation Displays the name of the operation used in the batch step.
    Version Displays the version of the operation used in the batch step.
    Requirement Date Displays the required date for the ingredient.
    Plan Qty Displays the planned quantity of the ingredient.
    Actual Qty Displays the actual quantity of the ingredient used.
    Backordered Qty Displays the quantity of the item that was not allocated due to inventory shortage.
    Open Qty Displays the quantity of the ingredient that is currently required.
    UOM Displays the unit of measure for the ingredient.
    Subinventory Displays the subinventory from which the ingredient is consumed.
    Locator Displays the locator from which the ingredient is consumed.
    Plan Start Date Displays the planned start date for the batch.
    Plan End Date Displays the planned completion date for the batch.
    Actual Start Date Displays the start date for the batch.
