On rare occasions, when the kernel module debugger (kmdb) examines the live system state, the kmdb dcmds might fail with the following error message:
kmdb: failed to allocate XXX bytes -- recovering
These kmdb commands are affected:
::cpuinfo
::stacks
Continuing to use kmdb after this error condition occurs might result in further degrading, including subsequent failure of other built-in dcmds or walkers.
Although kmdb attempts to recover gracefully from an out-of-memory situation, it might not be able to and be forced to terminate the system, which requires manual recovery.
Workaround: Avoid using kmdb for active debugging whenever possible. If use of kmdb is required, contact your Oracle service provider for further assistance.
