This chapter provides instructions for upgrading the DAC Client and Server to version 11g Release 1 and the DAC repository from the 10g format to the 11g format.
This chapter contains the following topics:
Note:
f you are using DAC version 7.8, you cannot upgrade directly to DAC 11g. You must first upgrade to DAC 10g and then to DAC 11g. For instructions on upgrading to DAC 10g, see Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Upgrade Guide for Informatica PowerCenter Users.
Before you upgrade to DAC 11g, you should have a thorough understanding of the upgrade process and know the key differences between DAC 10g and DAC 11g.
Upgrade Overview
The process of upgrading to DAC 11g involves upgrading the DAC platform and repository, and then performing post upgrade tasks. If you are upgrading to DAC 11g but you are not upgrading your Oracle BI Applications content, then you should follow the instructions in this chapter.
If you are upgrading to DAC 11g and you are upgrading your Oracle BI Applications content, then you should follow the instructions in Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Upgrade Guide for Informatica PowerCenter Users.
Key Differences Between DAC 10g and DAC 11g
Before you upgrade to DAC 11g from DAC 10g, note the following key differences between the two releases:
Security
In DAC 11g, all passwords in the DAC repository are encrypted in an encryption key, which is stored in a cwallet.sso file on the file system. Each DAC Client and Server in the environment needs to share a copy of the same cwallet.sso file. For detailed information about the DAC security model, see:
If the encryption key is lost or damaged, you must clear the encrypted data from the DAC repository and create a new cwallet.sso file with a new encryption key. See "Recovering From a Lost Encryption Key" for instructions.
DAC command line utilities
In DAC 11g, the DAC command line utilities that are exposed in the AutomationUtils.bat file have been enhanced with the following functionality:
Read the database connection information from the file system and connect to the DAC repository.
Manage the encryption key and authentication file (cwallet.sso)
Create DAC users and schemas
For a complete list of DAC command line utilities and information about how to use these utilities, see "DAC Repository Command Line Utilities".
For Windows environments, you install DAC 11g by running the Oracle BI Applications Client Installer. This installer installs both the DAC Client and Server. For instructions on running the installer, see "Installing DAC on Windows in Standalone Mode".
Note:
The Oracle BI Applications Client Installer executable is named biapps_client_install.exe. It installs all the necessary files for the DAC Client and Server.
There is no DAC 11g installer for UNIX environments. To install DAC 11g in a UNIX environment, you must first run the Oracle BI Applications Client installer in a Windows environment and then copy the folder containing the DAC Client and Server into the UNIX environment. For instructions on installing DAC 11g in a UNIX environment, see "Installing DAC on UNIX in Standalone Mode".
To upgrade an existing DAC repository in the DAC 10g format to the DAC 11g format, you must first install the DAC 11g Client and Server. You then use the DAC 11g Client to connect to the existing repository. This connection process will convert the existing DAC 10g repository to the DAC 11g format.
Note:
If you are also upgrading Oracle BI Applications metadata content, you need to upgrade the repository from the 10g format to the 11g format, and then upgrade the Oracle BI Applications metadata content. For instructions, see the section titled "Upgrading and Configuring DAC" in Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Upgrade Guide for Informatica PowerCenter Users.
To upgrade an existing DAC repository from the 10g format to 11g format:
Log in to the DAC 11g Client as an Administrator, and make sure you select DAC as the Authentication Type.
For instructions, see "Logging Into DAC for the First Time as an Administrator".
When prompted to upgrade the repository, click Yes.
This process will take several minutes. When the process is complete, the DAC Client will open.
Perform the following post upgrade tasks:
Configure the DAC repository to allow DAC Server connections.
For instructions, see "Configuring the DAC Repository to Allow DAC Server Connections"
Configure connection between the DAC Server and repository.
For instructions, see "Configuring the Connection Between the DAC Server and DAC Repository"
Note: If you are installing the DAC Server in a UNIX environment, complete the installation before you perform this task. For instruction on installing the DAC Server on UNIX, see "Installing DAC on UNIX in Standalone Mode".
Move customized files.
If you customized paramOLTP.txt and paramOLAP.txt, move these files to the relevant directory in the new installation environment.
If you customized customsql.xml or infa_command.xml, move the customizations to the appropriate files in the new installation environment.
