Hierarchies Built from Physical and Metadata Elements

You can build hierarchies comprised of columns from the Source Navigator and columns from the Metadata Navigator. In Figure 12, Mixed hierarchy created with physical and metadata elements, the parent member, FAMILY, is a column that is dragged into the hierarchy from the Source Navigator; the child member, SKU, is a dimension element that is dragged into the hierarchy from the Metadata Navigator.

When you drag a column from the Source Navigator into a hierarchy, a dimension element is automatically created for that column in the Metadata Navigator, in the same folder where the hierarchy is created.
