Creating Bindings By Inspection for an Alias Set

After you create an alias set (as described in Creating Alias Sets), you can add bindings to it. Bindings specify the columns in the data source that hold alias information for an alias set.

In this procedure, you create the bindings by inspection. You can also create bindings manually. See Creating Bindings Manually for an Alias Set .

To create bindings by inspection for an alias set:

  1. Open the Alias Set Manager (Tools, then Alias Set Manager).

Before you can add bindings to an alias, you create an alias set, as described in Creating Alias Sets. If you created an alias set, proceed to step 2.

  2. In Alias sets, select an alias set.

  3. To the right of the Bindings box, click Create bindings by inspection.

  4. In Create Aliases, locate Pattern for alias columns, and enter a string that represents all or part of a column name that you will use to base bindings.

For example, if each table in a database contains a column named in the format, <language>_alias, enter this search pattern:

    *alias
  5. Select data source connections that you want to inspect for alias bindings.

  6. Click OK.

Essbase Studio inspects the selected data source connections for alias bindings and lists them under Bindings in the Alias Set Manager.

  7. Review the alias set bindings presented, editing or deleting them as necessary.
