A user with the appropriate rights can freeze or unfreeze patients, visits, forms, and items with any status except Locked. Freezing prevents changes in data—either temporarily, during a study, or permanently, at the end of a study. Updates can occur, however, via automatic or manual queries.
After a patient, visit, form, or item is frozen, you cannot update the data, but you can issue manual queries for data items and respond to queries. If a repeating form is frozen, no new forms can be added to a visit. You can unfreeze any patient, visit, form, or item with a frozen status.
If you freeze all the repeating sections and freeze the form, you are prevented from adding new repeating sections. If you freeze the repeating sections, but do not freeze the form, you can still add repeating sections but cannot change anything in the frozen sections.
Note: A response to a manual query on a frozen item does not remove the frozen status of the item. The frozen status remains intact to prevent additional updates to the item without query generation.
