Summary

The San Diego Community College District, in conjunction with their partner Astute Business Solutions, migrated their PeopleSoft HCM, FSCM, Campus Solutions, and ELM instances to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) running on Exadata Cloud Service. In addition to PeopleSoft Cloud Manager, they use OCI services such as OSMS patching, OCI vulnerability, Cloud Advisor, dashboard monitoring, and DBMS ExaCS monitoring. Having moved to OCI, San Diego Community College District has embarked on an application modernization initiative starting with FSCM and moving to HCM and Campus Solutions. To begin with, San Diego Community College District has rolled out Supplier 360, fluid WorkCenters, fluid workflows, and match exception collaboration center enhancing the user experience for their users.

The San Diego Community College District is also considering moving several non-Oracle workloads to OCI in parallel.

As one of the largest of California’s 73 community college districts, the San Diego Community College District serves approximately 80,000 students annually at its three credit colleges—San Diego City College, Mesa College, and Miramar College—as well as the seven campuses of the San Diego College of Continuing Education.

The San Diego Community College District migrated PeopleSoft HCM, FSCM, Campus Solutions, and ELM instances to OCI running on Exadata Cloud Service. Astute Business Solutions provided an accelerated cloud migration service and moved San Diego Community College District to OCI in five months, building a secure, modern enterprise solution with high availability, disaster recovery, and automated monitoring and backups. The San Diego Community College District have been live since July 2023 and are running stable production, non-production, and disaster recovery instances on OCI now. Astute provides a managed service to assist them with maintenance of OCI IaaS and PaaS services and PeopleSoft application administration support as well. The San Diego Community College District uses PeopleSoft Cloud Manager, OSMS patching, OCI vulnerability, Cloud Advisor, dashboard monitoring, and DBMS ExaCS monitoring to manage their PeopleSoft instances.

For the purpose of monitoring, the San Diego Community College District:

Implemented Oracle Enterprise Manager and migrated the associated scripts.
Since the on-premises database was a non-container database (CDB), converted over to the cloud-supported infrastructure. Set up as one pluggable database (PDB) per CDB.
