University of Florida Health (UFH) implemented PeopleSoft Mobile Inventory to improve efficiency and productivity. UFH used the delivered fluid transactions, and customized the solution with non-invasive, bolt-on extensions to address their unique needs. These include:

  • Using BI Publisher to create bar code labels that print to portable Zebra printers. By using BI Publisher, UFH was able to leverage all the printer setup features that are user or session specific in Mobile Inventory, rather than using a third-party add-on solution that would require dual configuration.
  • Using web services available through Integration Broker to create a bolt-on extension that allows UHF to interact directly with UPS or FedEx to obtain the PO number associated with a shipment. The extension takes the user directly to the receiving screen with the PO displayed, based on the scan of the tracking number and without any data entry required.

These are just of a few of the many innovations made by UFH as part of their PeopleSoft Mobile Inventory implementation. The solution, in combination with the extensions, increased accuracy, increased user productivity, and was much easier for the users, overall. The use of BI Publisher eliminated the license, implementation, and ongoing maintenance costs of a third-party solution that would otherwise have been required. This eliminated further complexity that would have impacted maintenance and taking future enhancements. Each extension was done as a "bolt-on" to allow these customizations to survive future PUM updates with a minimum of retrofit.
