Background Process Scheduling

With OPERA PMS, the end of day sequence takes care of running most "background processes" — programs that handle routine activities on a regular basis such as updating production statistics, changing Due-In reservations that have not checked in to No Shows, cancelling waitlisted reservations, and so on. (See End of Day Sequence Setup for details.) When Sales & Catering is integrated with PMS, the end-of-day sequence can also include background processes related to S&C as well.

However, when OPERA Sales & Catering is installed "stand-alone" (that is, when S&C is not integrated with OPERA PMS), you can use the Process Scheduling feature to manage S&C background processes that you wish to run automatically, on a set schedule. In addition, even when S&C is integrated with PMS, you can use background processing scheduling rather end-of-day processing to run special S&C procedures that need to be executed more frequently than once a day during night-audit.

Select Configuration>Database>Process Scheduling to set up Sales and Catering background processes.

The following information is displayed on the Process Scheduling screen.

Job Name. S&C procedure name.

Next Run. Date and time when the process will run. Select the Refresh Data button to update this field.

Frequency. How often the process is scheduled to run. Process frequency is usually set by application settings.

Starting and Stopping Processes

To schedule a process to run, select the Start button to display the S&C Procedures multi-select list. Place an X next to the procedure(s) you want to schedule for background processing. The procedures available from this screen have been installed as system inserted data (SID).

Select the OK button to insert the procedure(s) into the Process Scheduling screen.

Note: When adding background processes, keep in mind their potential impact on system performance.

To remove a procedure from the schedule, highlight your choice on the Process Scheduling screen and select the Stop button.
