Format Table Cells


After completing this topic, you will be able to format cells in a table.


Steps:

  1. We are going to merge all of the cells in the top row using the context menu.

     

    Right-click in the Corporate Paper Sizes and Locations field.

  2. Point to the Cell menu.

  3. Merge the cell to the right.

     

    Click the Merge Right link.

  4. Repeat this process two more times to merge all of the cells in the top row.

     

    Right-click in the Corporate Paper Sizes and Locations field.

  6. Click the Merge Right menu.

  7. Right-click in the Corporate Paper Sizes and Locations field.

  8. Point to the Cell menu.

  10. All of the cells in the top row have been merged.

     

    Tip: You could also have selected the cells in the top row and used the Merge Cells command in the Cell menu. However, working with HTML tables is not like working with Word tables. You cannot easily select blank cells. If you need to select blank cells for formatting, it is often best to type a single character in the blank cells to function as placeholders.

  11. You can change the alignment of cells. Use the toolbar to left align the merged text.

     

    Click the Align Left button.

  12. Unlike Word tables, you cannot set properties for an entire row or column. You can select cells and set cell properties. Select the 8.5 and 11 values in the Letter row.

     

    Click the 8.5 value in the Letter row.

  13. Press the [Shift] key and click the 11 value in the Letter row.

  14. Use the context menu to change the cell properties.

     

    Right-click one of the selected values.

  17. Set a Width of 100 and click OK.

     

    Click in the Width field.

  18. Enter the desired information into the Width field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "100"

  20. Some cell properties affect an entire row or column; for example changing the Width of a cell affects the entire column, while changing the Height of a cell affects the entire row.
