Replace a Controller HDD

The Controller hard disk drive (HDD) contains system configuration information. While this information is stored redundantly, Oracle recommends that the drive is replaced as soon as possible.

Prerequisites:
  • Before handling a component, touch a grounded surface to discharge any static electricity.

  • Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap to your wrist, and stand on an ESD mat while replacing components.

  • Ensure that you have a replacement HDD available immediately. Otherwise, if the drive compartment is left empty, the Controller might overheat due to improper airflow.

Each Controller has an HDD that is located inside the Controller’s drive compartment. The Controller HDD is a customer replaceable unit (CRU). Replacing the Controller HDD does not require you to bring the Controller offline. The following figure identifies the location of the Controller HDD.

Note: To replace a Controller HDD, you do not need to remove the Controller from the rack or even extend it along the Controller rails.
