Storage Domain Compaction

The Oracle FS System compacts fragmented storage capacity, which is caused by deleted auto‑tiered LUNs, and makes the capacity available for use.

The system allocates storage capacity for QoS Plus. During normal operations, storage capacity can become fragmented when capacity is freed from deleted auto‑tiered LUNs, but that freed capacity is not made available. Fragmented capacity makes inefficient use of the available storage capacity.

As needed, the system compacts the storage capacity in the drive groups that comprise of the Storage Domain. You can manually compact the Storage Domain to make the fragmented storage capacity available for use. During compact operations, any QoS Plus data migration is suspended. Compacting the Storage Domain cannot occur when there is insufficient storage capacity in the drive group.
