Compact a Storage Domain

You might want to compact the storage tier capacity that is unavailable in the Storage Domain. After the compacting is complete, the system has free capacity that is available for use.

The Oracle FS System compacts the QoS Plus storage capacity on a regular basis. However, you can manually compact the Storage Domain as needed. For example, you might want to compact the Storage Domain after you have deleted a number of auto‑tier LUNs and need to quickly release any unavailable storage capacity.

  1. Navigate to System > Storage Domains.
  2. Select the Storage Domain to update.
  3. Select Actions > Compact Storage Domain.
    Result:

The Storage Domain status changes to Background Activity.

  4. Click OK.
    Result:
  5. Click OK.

When the compact process is complete, the Storage Domain status changes to Normal. You can monitor the compaction process by selecting Tasks from the status bar. The free storage capacity should increase after you have compacted the unavailable storage capacity.

If the compacting process is taking too long, or if the process impacts system performance, you can cancel the process by selecting Actions > Cancel Compact Storage Domain.
