Create a Storage Domain

Storage Domains allow you to assign logical volumes to a specific collection of drive groups. For example, Storage Domains allow administrators to partition storage for specific users or departments in a public or private cloud storage environment.

Assigning volumes to specific Storage Domains can reduce I/O contention among volumes.

  1. Navigate to System > Storage Domains.
  2. Select Actions > Create Storage Domain.
  3. Enter the name of the Storage Domain.
  4. (Optional) Select the Background Process Priority that the system uses to respond to migrating data.
    Possible choices:
    • System Chooses

    • Minimize Impact

    • Maximize Speed

  5. (Optional) Select the tier reallocation options.
    Possible choices:
    • Enable Tier Reallocation

    • Enable Tier Reallocation Statistics Collection

  6. (Optional) Optimize the Auto‑Tier Scan Options.
    Possible choices:
    • Performance-Optimizing Scan Cycle

    • Number of n‑hour Scan Cycles

Note: Select the lock icon to unlock and lock the fields.

Result:The system calculates the Cost‑Optimizing Scan Cycle value.
  7. (Optional) In the Allowable Storage Capacity for Auto‑Tiered LUNs field, enter the percentage of the storage capacity to allocate for each available Storage Class that is listed.
  8. Click OK.
The Storage Domain now appears in the list of domains.

After you create a Storage Domain, add one or more drive groups to the domain so you can assign logical volumes in the domain. The number of drive groups that you add to a Storage Domain and the Storage Classes available in those drive groups directly affect the performance of the volume that is on that domain.
