3.2 Managing Packaged Applications in a Full Development Environment

This section describes how to view, install, run, remove, unlock, export, change authentication, and update packaged applications in a full development environment.

3.2.1 Viewing the Packaged App Gallery

Use the Packaged App Gallery page to view, install, run, remove, unlock, export, change authentication, and update packaged applications.

To access the Packaged App Gallery:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the Packaged Apps icon.

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Click the Packaged App Gallery icon.

    The Packaged Apps Gallery appears.

  3. To search for an application:

    1. Enter search terms in Search field at the top of the page.

      Search Results appear.

    2. Select an application to view.

    The Packaged Application Details page appears, displaying a summary information about the application. The actual options that display depend upon whether the application has been installed.

  4. If the application is not installed, click Install Application to install it.

  5. If the application is currently installed, click Manage to change the application authentication or remove the application.

3.2.2 Viewing the Packaged App Dashboard

To access the Packaged App Dashboard:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the Packaged Apps icon.

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Click the Dashboard icon.

    The Packaged App Dashboard page appears and displays metrics about packaged applications in the current workspace including the total number of packaged applications, packaged applications installed, packaged applications not installed, and applications eligible for upgrade.

3.2.3 Installing a Packaged Application

To install a packaged application:

  1. Access the Packaged App Gallery. See "Viewing the Packaged App Gallery."

  2. Locate the application to be installed.

    Tip:

    Use the Search field at the top of the page to narrow the display.
  3. Click an application to install.

    The Packaged Application Details page appears.

  4. Click Install Application.

  5. Select an Authentication scheme and click Next.

  6. Click Install Application again.

    The Packaged Application Details page appears. The success message, Application installed, displays at the top of the page.

  7. To run the application, click the Run icon. See "Running an Installed Packaged Application."

  8. Click Manage.

    The Manage dialog displays three buttons:

    Tip:

    Once you install a packaged application, it displays under Installed Packaged Apps on the Packaged Apps page.

3.2.4 Running an Installed Packaged Application

To run an installed packaged application:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the Packaged Apps icon.

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Under Installed Packaged Apps, locate the application to be installed and click the Run icon.

    Tip:

    You can also run an installed packaged application from the Packaged App Gallery or from Application Builder.
  3. Enter the appropriate credentials:

    1. Username - Enter your workspace username.

    2. Password - Enter your workspace password.

    3. Click Sign In.

    The application displays in a new window.

3.2.5 Removing an Installed Packaged Application

To remove an installed packaged application:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the Packaged Apps icon.

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Click the Packaged Apps icon.

  3. Locate the Installed Packaged Apps region.

  4. Locate the application and click the Manage icon.

  5. Click Remove.

  6. When prompted, click Remove Application.

You can also perform this task on the Application Details page. See "Viewing the Packaged App Gallery."

3.2.6 Changing Authentication for an Installed Packaged Application

To change the authentication for an installed packaged application:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the Packaged Apps icon.

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Locate the Installed Packaged Apps region.

  3. Locate the application and click the Manage icon.

  4. Click Change Authentication.

    The Change Authentication page appears.

  5. From Authentication, select an authentication scheme and click Apply Changes.

You can also perform this task on the Application Details page. See "Viewing the Packaged App Gallery."

3.2.7 Unlocking an Installed Productivity Application

The main difference between an Oracle-supplied sample and packaged application is the level of support. Once a packaged application is installed, you must unlock it before you can edit it. By default, sample applications are fully editable.

Note:

Unlocking a packaged application makes it ineligible for future upgrades or support by Oracle Support.

To unlock an installed packaged application:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the Packaged Apps icon.

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Locate the Installed Packaged Apps region.

  3. Locate the application and click the Manage icon.

  4. Click Unlock.

    The Unlock Packaged Application page appears.

  5. Click Unlock Application.

3.2.8 Updating a Packaged Application

You can update a packaged application if an Update button displays on Packaged Application Details page.

To update a packaged application:

  1. Access the Packaged App Gallery. See "Viewing the Packaged App Gallery."

    The Packaged Apps page appears.

  2. Locate and click the application to be updated.

    The Packaged Application Details page appears.

  3. Click Update Application.

    The Update Packaged Application page appears.

Note:

Because sample applications are unlocked by default, they cannot be updated. If you wish to access the Universal theme look and feel available in Oracle Application Express Release 5.0, reinstall the application.
