Using the Group by Functionality

Previous TopicNext TopicContents

The Group By functionality allows you to group projects by selected columns. This functionality allows you to group projects, for example, by project, status, stage/phase, organization etc. You can also use multiple grouping criteria to group projects by primary and secondary criteria, for example, you can group projects by On-time Status and Organization.

You can use the button to enable or disable the group by functionality.

  1. Navigate to the Projects page by clicking on the Projects link in the left navigation bar, or from the Go To > Projects.
  2. From the Projects page, click the button or from the Data menu select Group By to enable the Group by functionality. By default the screen loads with the Group By icon disabled and the Group By Option set to None.
The Grouping row is displayed just below the header row. If the Filter toggle is enabled, then the filter row is displayed below the grouping row. The Group By columns are displayed under the first column.
  3. From the drop-down menu select a column for grouping. Projects are grouped based on your selection. If you select None, all qualifying projects are displayed ungrouped. Typically text fields are enabled for grouping and numeric fields are summed for each group used for grouping. Certain fields like Project ID and Project Name, which are unique fields are not eligible for grouping column selection.
  4. To filter based on multiple criteria, select a project column name and drag it next to your first filter criteria. The Group by drop down value automatically changes to Custom and the projects are displayed based on the multiple grouping columns. To remove a column from the grouping criteria, select and drag the column away.
