What's New?

This revision includes the following updates:

  • The SMC ALLOCDef command includes the VTVINValidmsg parameter, used to specify whether SMC automatically fails a job step during allocation under certain conditions:

    • Specific volume request.

    • Volume is unknown to HSC or VTCS.

    • Volser does not match any VOLATTR or VOLPARM statements.

    • The incoming eligible device list contains only virtual devices.

  • Added the VTV pinning feature, used to guarantee creation of a resident VTV copy in the VTSS buffer. This feature addresses the issue of VTV copies being deleted by VTCS from the VTSS buffers once they are fully migrated.

    • The MGMTclas control statement includes the PINPOL parameter, used to specify one or two pinning locations. A location can be either a VTSS name or VTSSLST name. See MGMTclas Control Statement.

    • Display VTV output is updated to indicate when a VTV has been pinned. See Display VTV.

    • Auto migration or Migrate to threshold behavior is updated to react to pinned VTVs the same as VTVS with a NOMIGRAT policy on their management class. If a request is made to migrate to a particular threshold, and all remaining VTVs in the buffer are pinned, then the migration fails and error messages SLS6702E and SLS6667I are issued.

  • Added Oracle recommendation to avoid draining an MVC on a VOLSAFE (WORM) tape, as once it is drained, it cannot be used for migration and must be replaced.

  • The MGMTclas control statement includes the REPDELAY parameter, used to specify the asynchronous replication and/or asynchronous electronic export delay time, the minimum amount of time after a VTV is dismounted that the asynchronous replication and/or asynchronous electronic export will be delayed.

    See MGMTclas Control Statement.

  • The Display REPlicat command, Listvtvs parameter includes the DELAY option, used to list VTVs for the specified VTSS that are being delayed for both asynchronous replication and asynchronous electronic export. Output also indicates the minimum and maximum age of the delayed VTVs.

    See Display REPlicat.

  • Removed SSYS and TAPEPlex parameters from the SMCUSIM utility, as they are invalid.

See "SMC UUI Simulation Utility (SMCUSIM)".

  • General maintenance updates to address code fixes.
