Working with Item Cycles (WICY)

Item cycle codes are used to select groups of items periodically for physical inventory.

You can assign a cycle code to an item using the Cycle field in the Item table. If the Cycle Counting (A06) system control value is selected, the Generate Physical Inventory Screen allows you to enter up to 10 cycle codes to be counted. The system compares the physical inventory generation date against the Last physical date defined for the Item Location and uses the Days defined for the cycle code to determine which item locations for an item assigned to the cycle code to include in the physical inventory.

Example of physical inventory using cycle code: The following items are assigned to cycle code W. The number of days defined for the cycle code is 7, indicating the item is eligible for a physical inventory count every 7 days.

On 9/14, you generate a physical inventory for cycle code W. During the physical inventory generation, the system:

1. Determines the items that are assigned to cycle code W.

2. For each item assigned to cycle code W, compares the Last physical date in the Item Location table to the physical inventory generation date.

• If the number of days between the physical inventory generation date and the Last physical date for the item location is equal to or greater than the number of days defined for the cycle code, the system includes the item location in the physical inventory count.

• If the number of days between the physical inventory generation date and the Last physical date for the item location is less than the number of days defined for the cycle code, the system does not include the item location in the physical inventory count.

Item	Last Physical	Results
ITM1	9/12/11	The system does not include the item in the physical inventory count since the last time the item was counted is less than the number of days defined for the cycle code: 9/14/11 - 9/12/11 = 2 day since the last time the item was counted.
ITM2	9/6/11	The system includes the item in the physical inventory count since the last time the item was counted is less than the number of days defined for the cycle code: 9/14/11 - 9/6/11 = 8 days since the last time the item was counted.
ITM3	9/7/11	The system includes the item in the physical inventory count since the last time the item was counted is equal to the number of days defined for the cycle code: 9/14/11 - 9/7/11 = 7 days since the last time the item was counted.
ITEM4	9/8/11	The system does not include the item in the physical inventory count since the last time the item was counted is less than the number of days defined for the cycle code: 9/14/11 - 9/8/11 = 6 days since the last time the item was counted.
ITM5	9/1/11	The system includes the item in the physical inventory count since the last time the item was counted is greater than the number of days defined for the cycle code: 9/13/11 - 9/1/11 = 12 days since the last time the item was counted.

How to display this screen: Enter WICY in the Fast Path field at the top of any menu or select this option from a menu.

Field	Description
Cycle	A code that identifies the item cycle. Alphanumeric, 2 positions; optional.
Description	The description of the item cycle Alphanumeric, 30 positions; optional.
Days	The number of days between physical counts of items assigned to this cycle code. Numeric, 5 positions; optional.

Screen Option	Procedure
Create a new item cycle	Select Create to advance to the Create Item Cycle Screen.
Change an item cycle	Select Change for a code to advance to the Change Item Cycle screen. At this screen you can change any information except the item cycle. See Create Item Cycle Screen for field descriptions.
Delete an item cycle	Select Delete for a code to delete it.
Display an item cycle	Select Display for a code to advance to Display Item Cycle Screen. You cannot change any information on this screen. See the Create Item Cycle Screen for field descriptions.

Create Item Cycle Screen

To create: At the Work with Item Cycles Screen, select Create.

Field	Description
Cycle	A code that identifies a physical inventory cycle. You may assign this code to items that will be counted at the same time. Alphanumeric, 2 positions. Create screen: required. Change screen: display-only.
Description	A description of the item cycle. Alphanumeric, 30 positions; optional.
Days	The number of days between physical counts of items assigned to this cycle code. Numeric, 5 positions; optional.
