Oracle® DIVArchive Suite

Release Notes

Release 7.3

E65413-02

October 2015

This document provides release information for Oracle's DIVArchive Suite Releases 7.3.0 and 7.3.1. Read this documentation before installing and using Oracle DIVArchive.

Installing, Configuring, or Updating DIVArchive

Contact Oracle Support for assistance installing, updating, or configuring DIVArchive. The Oracle Support Contacts Global Directory can be found at:

http://www.oracle.com/us/support/contact/index.html

Refer to the Oracle DIVArchive Operations Guide for user-configurable parameters.

System Requirements

Before installing or upgrading DIVArchive, use the prerequisite package provided by Oracle to confirm that your system meets all requirements.

Security

Oracle recommends keeping the OS up to date with the latest security patches. However, Oracle cannot guarantee that all patches will operate correctly with DIVArchive because the OS security patches are independent of the DIVArchive application.

You should determine the acceptable OS security patch level for your environment. Contact Oracle Support for assistance in determining OS patch level compatibility.

What's New in Oracle DIVArchive Suite Release 7.3.1

DIVArchive Release 7.3.1 includes the following enhancements:

Oracle DIVArchive Actor

Transcoding now supports load balancing based on the following behavior:

  • Empty Queue — a transcoder that is not in use will be selected first.

  • Performance — a transcoder with higher performance will be selected next.

  • Number of free queue slots available — the transcoder with the most available queue slots will be selected last.

A transcoder may optionally be coupled to a specific Actor, and the transcoder server and the transcoder cache can now be located on different servers.

Oracle DIVArchive Manager

A new options field has been added to several commands in the DIVArchive Java API and DIVarchive C++ API. Refer to the appropriate API documentation for more information.

The following two new error codes have been added to the deleteObject action:

  • DIVA_ERR_OBJECT_BEING_ARCHIVED
This error is returned when you attempt to delete an object that is being archived.

  • DIVA_ERR_OBJECT_IN_USE
This error is returned when you attempt to delete an object that has been locked for a read operation (for example, with restore and copy commands).

DIVArchive Control GUI

The DIVArchive Control GUI now displays an instance's storage format. The possible formats include Legacy, AXF 0.9, and AXF 1.0. AXF configured tapes, groups and arrays will remain as AXF. These media can hold AXF instances that are either AXF 0.9 or AXF 1.0.

DIVArchive Configuration Utility

The DIVA Media Mapping element now allows mapping of any input string to media or a storage plan. Prior to this release, the DIVA Media Mapping element (configurable on the Sets and Groups tab) only accepted input media values that already existed in the database.

What's New in Oracle DIVArchive Suite Release 7.3.0

DIVArchive Release 7.3.0 includes the following enhancements:

DIVArchive Actor

DIVArchive now supports the AXF 1.0 standard. AXF instances generated by this version comply with the format defined in SMPTE 2034-1. Support for previous AXF instances remains, and previous instances transparently convert to AXF 1.0 during copy workflows.

Transcoders no longer couple to a single actor. You select the transcoder after selecting the actor, and do not need to specifically define a LOCAL transcode actor as a destination. DIVArchive dynamically and temporarily creates LOCAL actor destinations for the chosen actor. The destination is only stored in memory, not in the database.

The Transcoders panel in the Configuration Utility no longer contains the Actor Column. This change also affects Flip Factory and Vantage configurations.

The Configuration Utility now contains the actor and partial file restore configuration settings (previously, these settings were in the configuration file). However, the service name and port parameters remain in the configuration files.

The Actor Advanced and Partial Restore Settings tabs of the Actor panel (on the Systems tab) contain the actor and partial file restore settings. Engineering Mode allows access to some restricted settings.

This release includes support for IBM TS1150 drives, and Oracle Partial File Restore functionality for QuickTime with MPEG2 LGOP (XDCAM HD 422 with 16 tracks of audio).

DIVArchive Manager

The GetObjectsDetailsList uses parallel processing instead of serial processing, making it more efficient. This enhancement does not affect any API interfaces.

DIVArchive software licensing has changed. The License tab in the Configuration Utility has been removed.

Oracle DIVArchive Storage Plan Manager (SPM)

A new parameter named DELETE_OBJECT_ONLY_LAST_INSTANCE works along with the existing ALLOW_OBJECT_DELETION parameter. The new parameter only deletes an object if it is truly the last instance on the system. A complete description can be found in the SPM configuration file.

SPM supports disk cleaning based on the object's archive date. Prior to this release, the disk cleaning function only supported cleaning based on last access time and object size.

LocalDelete

LocalDelete (previously LynxLocalDelete) now has two modes of operation:

  • ASAP Purge Mode — the default legacy mode of operation that purges objects immediately after they are copied to other sites.

  • Delayed Purge Mode — the new mode and operates using watermarks in a method similar to SPM. Detailed information can be found in the LocalDelete configuration file.

Embedded Migration Service

This release includes a new and separate service - the Embedded Migration Service. It assists scheduling and running jobs to migrate assets between different media within a DIVArchive system. You can initiate jobs using either the Control GUI or a command line client. Contact Oracle Support for more information.

Restricted Use of Included Oracle Software Components

The Oracle database that is included with the DIVArchive system is limited to use only for the operation of the DIVArchive software.

Documentation Accessibility
