Disruptive Software Updates

You should be aware of which software updates are disruptive before you perform them. Oracle FS Systems implement disruptive software updates by restarting the entire system to bring up the new software. User applications lose access to the Oracle FS System storage arrays during a disruptive software update.

Examples of disruptive updates include drive updates and Controller BIOS component updates. You choose to perform a disruptive update by selecting Restart and update software or Shutdown Controller.
Note: If the upgrade package includes enclosure firmware updates, and you do not select Restart and update software or Shutdown Controller, the update proceeds without restarting the system. The enclosure firmware updates are not applied until the next system restart. If you do select Restart and update software or Shutdown Controller, the system installs the enclosure firmware on the resulting system startup.
