Managing Clone LUNs

Clone LUNs are writable snapshot images of a LUN using partial-block snapshot technology. This technology allows the Oracle FS System to use the modified information in the clone and the unmodified information from the source LUN. You can create clones of clones. You can create a Clone LUN at any time.

A Clone LUN is defined as: A point‑in‑time, read‑write, partial‑block snapshot of a LUN that can be accessed immediately.

Before creating a Clone LUN, ensure that changes to the source LUN are minimized. For best results, pause the host applications that access the LUN, or use host software, such as Oracle FS Volume Shadow Copy Service Provider (VSS), before creating the Clone LUN. When the system displays the replica in the Oracle FS System Manager (GUI), you can resume writing to the LUN.

Important! Make sure that the clone repository does not fill up, consuming the maximum amount of space allocated. Monitor the amount of space available and modify the volume to allocate more clone capacity, as needed. If a clone requires more space from the repository, but space is not available, the clone is taken offline and a System Alert is generated.
Deleting a LUN or Clone LUN, affects the associated clones:
