Restart the Oracle FS System

Restarting the Oracle FS System reinitializes all software components. Reinitializing the software is necessary, for example, when preparing for a disruptive software update process.

Caution
Data loss is possible if client I/O is active when the system restarts.
If the system is currently in an Online state, you might want to send a message to the system users that a system restart is about to begin. Stopping all user I/O 15 minutes before you restart a running system minimizes the risk of data loss. This time ensures that the flash backed memory is written to the storage arrays before the restart begins. You cannot schedule a system restart.
When you restart a running system, it begins a shutdown operation, which takes all data paths offline, writes all cached data to the storage arrays, and quiets the software modules. The system then begins the startup process. During this phase of the restart operation, the startup process verifies the system configuration and attempts to bring the system online.
Note: When restarting the system after the system has been shut down, the system initiates the startup process. This process verifies the system configuration and attempts to bring the system online.
  1. Select Oracle FS > Restart.

The system displays the restart confirmation dialog.

  2. Read the information on the confirmation dialog, and then click OK.

The system starts up and, when the startup process completes, the System Information page (System > System Information) displays Status: Normal.

If the Pilot cannot safely shut down the system to begin the restart process, a second dialog is displayed. Read the message, then do one of the following:
    • To close the dialog so you can resolve the problem, click Cancel.

    • To ignore the problem and continue with the system restart, click Force Restart.
      Caution
Data loss is possible. Be certain you want to force a restart operation.
