Understanding the Database Update Frequency

You can establish how often database synchronization jobs are run on the workstations. By default, the workstations and Kitchen Display System (KDS) Controllers wait 30 minutes to retrieve the latest updates from the database.

The Database Update Frequency setting exists in three modules in the Enterprise Management Console (EMC):
  • Property Parameters

  • Workstations

  • KDS Controller

The Workstations module setting or KDS Controller setting takes precedence over the Property Parameters setting. If the workstation’s Database Update Frequency setting is greater than the Property Parameters setting, the highest configured value within the entire Workstations module for the property is used for the purge jobs event scheduling calculation. For example, if the workstation’s Database Update Frequency field has a configured value of 180 seconds, an additional 30 minutes is added to the event schedule. In other words, the Check and Posting Service (CAPS) totals purge job does not run until 33 minutes have elapsed from the moment that the Clear Totals button is first clicked.
