15 Maintaining the Database

Simphony is a data driven solution that relies on configuration data stored in a central database. Transactions that are added on Simphony clients are also stored within databases.

Simphony is comprised of two sets of databases that are used for the following purposes:
  • Online transaction processing

  • Online analytical (reports) processing

Two processes move data between the database:
  • Data Transfer Service (DTS) – Moves configuration data from the transaction database to the analytical database

  • Direct Posting Service (DPS) – Moves transaction data from the transaction database to the analytical database
