12 Managing POS Operations on a Cruise Ship

Authorized workstation operators can remotely lock and unlock workstations, transactions, and revenue centers on a ship to avoid sales transactions during critical times. Locking and unlocking operations can be performed individually or in groups.

For example, when a ship enters port or crosses jurisdictional boundaries, tax and gaming requirements may change. The ship can prevent transactions in certain revenue centers for limited time periods, such as this example or when running Start of Day (SOD) or End of Day (EOD), balancing the PMS and POS, and updating the application.

When a workstation is offline from the Check and Posting Service (CAPS) while submitting a workstation action, the submitted command is stored in the WORKSTATION_NOTIFICATION table in CAPS. After the target workstation resumes online network connectivity, Simphony applies the command to the workstation.
