Data Backup – General Notes on the Procedure

MICROS Retail OSCAR POS is an outstanding securely-working application. A 100% data security cannot be guaranteed. Particularly hardware problems can cause data loss. The risk of losing data can be minimized by data backups on a regular basis.

There are several ways to backup data:

1. Via the menu System -> Data backup
   This is the usual way of backing-up data.
2. On the operating system level (UNIX)
   This method is only to be deployed if a data backup via the menu system is not possible.
3. On the operating system level (WindowsNT)
   similar to 2.

Note:

• You can backup directories or complete directory trees.
• A complete backup of the operating system including all applications is not possible.
• Single files can only be backed up on the operating system level.
• A  Data Restoration is only possible on the operating system level.
