Line Printers in Windows NT

When deploying non-MICROS Retail printers, the same requirements apply as with MICROS Retail printers. The procedure of creating a form for these printers is the same, too.

If the procedure is not carried out as described above, there might be errors concerning the page advance, i.e. displacement in the lists. You have to adjust the form values in “MICROS Retail Line printer” to the deployed printers. The list length in MICROS Retail OSCAR POS should only be changed if the adjustment in the form does not lead to a satisfactory solution.

The following settings refer to the printers distributed by ADS.

Requirements:

  1. The Service Pack 3 by Microsoft must be installed.
  2. In Windows NT, a local printer of the type "GenericT / text only" must be set up.
  3. The printer "GenericT / text only" must be defined as the default printer.
  4. Define a device type Lineprinter in the update program Device with the following settings:

Creation of a new form:

The form page length must be changed for the printers mentioned above. You cannot work with "DIN A4" or other usual measures. A new form has to be created for this.

Procedure in Windows NT:

The new form has to be entered on the printer "GenericT / text only".

Printing with a Network Printer (NT -> UNIX)

The deployment of a network requires that an appropriate printer has been set up in the operating system and that the corresponding services have been configured. The print jobs created by MICROS Retail OSCAR POS are to be sent to the printer by use of the commands "lpr" or "wprint".

The command "wprint" can only be used if reports are to be printed from a login client (administration terminal).

The corresponding parameters have to be set as follows:

  1. Define a device type Lineprinter in the update program Device with the following settings:

For all print jobs, a temporary file will be generated in the folder "\Temp" and deleted after the print job was successful.
