Taking over the UNIX Data on Windows Computers via TCP/IP
This
chapter will inform you about how to transfer the compressed data to the Windows
computer by use of the data transfer program TCP/IP. (Alternatively, you can
also do the transfer via Floppy Disk.)
Notes:
- All UNIX commands are case-sensitive.
- <Date> within a directory name stands for
the release date of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS software (e.g. osc020597).
- <Name> stands for a name you may choose at
will.
- <data> stands for a directory name you may
choose at will.
The data transfer by use of TCP/IP is to be carried
out as follows:
- On your UNIX computer, enter the directory /etc by use of the command: cd /etc.
- Open the file hosts
by use of the UNIX editor: vi hosts
<RETURN>.
- Enter the TCP/IP address and the name of the Windows
computer in this file,
e.g. 132.150.40.200
ADS1 #Windows computer
TCP/IP address name
[comment]
- On the Windows computer, open the target
directory by use of the command
cd
\usr\oscar\oscDate\work.srv
- Establish a connection to the UNIX computer via ftp by use of the TCP/IP address:
e.g. ftp
132.150.119.1
- Log on (Name, Password).
- Change to the binary mode by use of the command: binary.
- The following message appears: 200 Type set to I.
- Return to the original directory:
cd
/usr/oscar/oscDate/data.
- Transfer the zip archive by use of the command: get Name.zip.
- Decompress the zip archive: unzip Name.zip.
- Convert with oscar convert.
Now
the data has been restored on the Windows computer.
