Restoring Data backed up in UNIX in Windows from Floppy Disk

The chapter File Backup in UNIX for the Purpose of the Restoration in Windows operating system informed you about how to back up the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS data on the UNIX level to be able to restore it later in Windows operating system.

In the following, you will be informed about how to copy the data compressed in UNIX to a floppy disk and how to copy it from the floppy disk to the Windows computer. (The other way to transfer data to the Windows computer is via TCP/IP.) The data restoration is to be carried out in two steps:

A. Taking over the Data from the UNIX Computer to the Floppy Disk

  1. Copy the archive to the floppy disk by use of the command: doscp Name.zip a:
  2. Now you can delete the directory data on the UNIX computer. In order to avoid requests you should log on as superuser (su <RETURN> and password). The deletion procedure is carried out as follows:
    cd ..
    rm -r daten
    exit

B. Restoring the Data on the Windows Computer

  1. Insert the backup disk in the floppy drive of the Windows computer.
  2. By use of the NT Explorer, copy the data to the directory:
    C:\usr\oscar<Date>\work.srv
  3. Decompress the data by use of the command: unzip Name.zip
  4. Convert the data by use of the command: oscar convert
