Duty-free system

MICROS Retail OSCAR POS can be configured to meet the special requirements for the duty-free sector. For example: recording the flight no. of a passenger, dealing with VAT in accordance with the destination of the passenger and recording the place of residence of a passenger and special reports.

Passengers can make tax-reduced purchases in the special sectory of an airport, i.e. "Duty Free". Before a receipt is started the operator has to enter the flight no. of the passenger manually via the key event  <FLIGHT> or by reading the boarding card via a connected magnetic card reader. Alternatively, the personal data of a passenger can be read from the passport and used to calculate the turnover tax. The flight no. entered is checked for validity using the flight data (IATA codes) stored in the system.

The price to be charged for the goods purchased in the duty-free sector depends on the linked code of the destination airport.

If an item priced "0.00" is sold in the duty-free sector the recording will be rejected with error message "Item blocked". For example, cigarettes cannot be sold for inland flights. This article has price "0.00" linked to it in the standard price level. These items can only be sold for flight destination codes "N" or "K" in the duty-free sector. In this case, special price level 1 should be selected.

The following settings are necessary to set up a duty-free system in MICROS Retail OSCAR POS:

Sales at the checkout in the duty-free system configuration are described below.

Manual recording of flight no.

Every recording begins with entry of a flight no.. When the receipt is begun the message "Enter flight no." is shown. If the flight no. is to be entered manually via the <FLIGHT> key <ENABLEFL>  must be depressed for selection of manual flight no. entry.

If the <FLIGHT> key is depressed and no flight no. is entered the last flight no. appears as the default. The operator can then change this or can begin immediately with recording. If the key is depressed twice, the last but one flight no. is shown, if it is depressed three times, the third last flight no. is displayed. This operation can be discontinued with key <C> and manual entry of the flight no is requested.

The cashier then enters the flight no. from the flight ticket. The emtry is checked against the table with flight data.

If the flight no. exists the flight data and the code ("I", "E", "N" or "K") of the destination airport are displayed. All items can be sold if the code "N" or "K" appears.

If the flight no. does not exist, it can be stored in the system from a repeat entry. In such a case this data record is coded with a "K"  in field Origin. The 3-letter abbreviations for the destination airport must be entered for a flight no. entered in this way.

Flight validity starts at 18:00 hrs.on the day before and ends at 06:00 hrs the next day (36 hours).

Customer registration and special reports
