1 New Features

This chapter provides an overview of the new features introduced in Oracle Communications Convergence 3.0.2.

New Features Delivered in Convergence 3.0.2 Patch Sets

This section lists the new features released in Convergence 3.0.2 patch sets.

Convergence is Now Certified on Oracle WebLogic Server (Patch Set 1)

In this release, Convergence is additionally certified on Oracle WebLogic Server. See Convergence Installation and Configuration Guide, System Administrator's Guide, Security Guide, and Customization Guide for more information.

New Features Released in Convergence 3.0.2

This section lists the new features initially released in Convergence 3.0.2.

Convergence User Interface Enhancement

In previous releases, the conventional two-pane layout is used for Convergence user interface.

In this release, a new look and feel is provided to Convergence user interface through a compelling three-pane layout. This includes the following enhancements in the user interface:

  • A Hambuger menu (three line menu) icon is added to access the different Convergence services (Mail, Calendar, and Address Book).

  • All toolbar icons are replaced with the text.

  • In the Mail service, three panes such as Navigation, Message Listing, and Message View are displayed.

  • In Message Listing pane, a message grid (preview of the original email message) is displayed.

  • In Calendar service, user can search calendar resources based on the resource type and details and can reserve it for a calendar event. See the discussion about Reserving Calendar Resources in Convergence System Administrator's Guide for more information.

  • The Options tab is renamed as Settings and it is displayed in user's name drop-down menu in the Convergence banner.

The Convergence online Help includes instructions for setting the different layouts in Convergence User Interface.

Convergence Theme Enhancement

Convergence enables you to set a theme to customize the client's look-and-feel.

In this release, Convergence supports a new theme "Altair".

Convergence is Now Certified on GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5.0

In this release, Convergence is additionally certified on GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5.0.


Note:

Oracle does not provide support for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5.0.

Java 8 Support

In previous releases, Convergence supported JDK7 with latest critical patch update.

In this release, Convergence is additionally supported on JDK8 and is certified on JDK versions 8u144 to 8u152.

Additional Platform Support

In this release, Convergence is additionally supported on Oracle Linux (OL) 7.x operating system.

Support for Oracle Communications WebRTC Session Controller 7.2.0.2.0

With this release, Convergence now supports Oracle Communications WebRTC Session Controller 7.2.0.2.0.

Support for Log4j Appender Framework

Convergence is enhanced with the following new components for logging:

  • IM Gateway (HTTPBIND)

  • Network logs for HTTPBIND (HTTPBIND_XFER)

  • Avatar logs for HTTPBIND (HTTPBIND_AVATAR)

Also, Users can now set or unset the logging properties for an individual component of convergence. Appender reference is used to set or unset the logging properties.

Convergence users can specify the following logging properties for an individual component after the appender reference is set for the component:

  • log.appender.component_name_APPENDER.type

  • log.appender.component_name_APPENDER.location

  • log.appender.component_name_APPENDER.sizetriggerval

  • og.appender.component_name_APPENDER.maxbackupindex

  • log.appender.component_name_APPENDER.pattern

where component_name is the name of component of Convergence.

HTML Filtering

Convergence is enhanced to sanitize email content to avoid execution of potentially malicious content before rendering the email message in Convergence User Interface.

Whitelisting of Hosts for Better Security

Convergence is enhanced with configuration parameters to add whitelisting hosts to improve handling of Convergence setup with multiple domains securely.

Email Address Auto-Completion Enhancements

Convergence is enhanced with an option to collect email addresses that do not already appear in the corporate or personal address books. When Convergence users enable this option, Convergence collects email addresses in a new address book called Collected Addresses. By enabling this option, Convergence can auto-complete a greater number of email addresses. Users can copy email addresses from the Collected Addresses address book into their personal address books.

Calendar Service Enhancements

Convergence Calendar service includes the following enhancements:

  • Allows users to mark event attendees as either mandatory or optional.

  • Allows users to tag the calendar events with multiple and customized event categories.

  • Allows users to remember the last selected calendars even when they log out of Convergence.

The Convergence online Help includes instructions for setting the different calendar service enhancements in Convergence User Interface.

Other New Features Included in Convergence 3.0.2

This section lists the new features originally introduced in Convergence 3.0.1 Patch Sets but also included in Convergence 3.0.2.

Support for Tablet and iPad (3.0.1 Patch Set 2)

Convergence 3.0.1.2.0 added support for tablet and iPad.

Support for Secondary Email Address (3.0.1 Patch Set 3)

Convergence is enhanced with an option to add a secondary email address for an account. When Convergence users enable this option, password reset instructions will be sent to the secondary email address.

If Convergence users do not have a secondary email address set for their account, or if users have not confirmed the secondary email address, a banner message appears each time they log in to Convergence.

Deployment-Level Configuration Enhancements (3.0.1 Patch Set 3)

Convergence is enhanced to include the following deployment-level configuration enhancements:

  • Convergence is enhanced with an option to enable/disable external accounts. By enabling this option, users can view External Accounts node under Mail section in Options/Settings in User Interface.

  • Convergence is enhanced with an option to enable all available themes or a subset of themes.The theme selector dialog in User Interface shows all the themes that a user has defined in the client.enabledtheme parameter. Theme selector dialog is not displayed if a single theme is defined in the client.enabledtheme parameter.

  • Convergence is enhanced with an option to hide or show the SMS option in the Notifications tab in Calendar Options and in the Reminder dialog box in User Interface.

Option to Set Timezone (3.0.1 Patch Set 4)

Convergence provides an option to hide or show the Time Zone field in Date & Time tab under Global section in Options/Settings in User Interface. By enabling this option, users can set the timezone using the User Interface.

Signature Placement in Email Message (3.0.1 Patch Set 4)

Convergence provides an option for the users to specify where signature will appear in an email message. By enabling this option, a new check box, Insert the signature before the quoted text, is added in the Local Account tab under Mail section in Options/Settings in the user interface.

Response to Calendar Invitations for Recurring Events (3.0.1 Patch Set 4)

Convergence now allows you to accept or reject invitation to all the recurring events at once. To support this, a new dialog box with the following options has been added in the Invitation Detail view in Convergence UI:

  • Apply to all

  • Only this one

  • Cancel

Multipart/Mixed Email Content (3.0.1 Patch Set 4)

Convergence supports display of multipart/Mixed email content.
