Cache Modes for External Caching

Configure either simple or distributedExternal caching mode for repository item descriptors that use external caching. See information about cache modes in Caching Modes.

Do not configure modes other than simple and distributedExternal for repository item descriptors that use external caching.

The following table explains the recommended uses for simple and distributedExternal caching modes.

Cache Mode	Recommended Use
`simple`	Use `simple` caching mode for repository item descriptors that will not be invalidated by changes. Simple mode offers a performance advantage for repository item descriptors that are read and not written by the production server. In simple mode, your Oracle Commerce Platform application server will not communicate cache invalidation events to other servers in its cluster.
`distributedExternal`	Use `distributedExternal` mode for repository item descriptors that may be invalidated by changes. In this mode your Oracle Commerce Platform server will communicate cache invalidation events to other servers in its cluster.

simple

Use simple caching mode for repository item descriptors that will not be invalidated by changes. Simple mode offers a performance advantage for repository item descriptors that are read and not written by the production server.

In simple mode, your Oracle Commerce Platform application server will not communicate cache invalidation events to other servers in its cluster.

distributedExternal

Use distributedExternal mode for repository item descriptors that may be invalidated by changes. In this mode your Oracle Commerce Platform server will communicate cache invalidation events to other servers in its cluster.

Note: if you configure a cache mode other than simple or distributedExternal for a repository item descriptor that uses external caching, the Oracle Commerce Platform will reset the cache mode to simple when you restart your server.
