Formatting a Map Visualization

You can format a Map visualization to define thresholds and edit the contents of the Information Window that is displayed when users select a location in the visualization on the map. Steps to format a Map visualization are below.

Prerequisites

To define a threshold in a Map Visualization:

  1. From the Map panel, hover the cursor over the name of the metric in the Color By/Size By area, then click the arrow icon on the right. A list of options is displayed.

  2. Select Thresholds. The Threshold dialog box opens.

  3. From the Show drop-down list, select the type of threshold you want to define, as follows:

  4. From the Based on drop-down list, select the metric to use to define the threshold.

  5. From the second drop-down list, select one of the following:

  6. From the Break By drop-down list, select the attribute level at which you want to restart counting rank or percent values for the metric. This option is only available for thresholds based on rank or percent values.

  7. Each band displayed in the dialog box represents a different range of values. You can click and drag a thumb left or right along the slider to increase or decrease the range of values covered by the band.

  8. Do one of the following:

  9. Click OK. The threshold is created.

By default, when users select a location in the visualization, the names and values of attributes and metrics related to the location displayed are displayed in an Information Window. You can customize the display by adding HTML, plain text, or attribute and metric values to the Information Window.

 

To edit the contents of the Information Window:

  1. From the visualization's toolbar, click the Edit Information Window icon. The Edit Custom Info Window dialog box opens.

  2. In the field, type the text you want to display in the Information Window, as follows:

  3. Click OK. Your changes are saved.
