About Configuring Siebel Business Applications

The main Siebel Enterprise Server components that you can install are Siebel Gateway Name Server, Siebel Server, and Database Configuration Utilities. After installing one or more of these modules, or also installing the Siebel Web Server Extension (SWSE), you configure them by using one of the Siebel Configuration Wizards, as described in this chapter.

The Siebel Configuration Wizard framework supports configuration tasks for the Siebel Enterprise Server components, the Siebel database, and the SWSE. Multiple configuration wizards are provided for these modules, supporting different configuration tasks. Within each task, most of the screens provide explanatory information about the settings you are prompted to make. Some configuration wizard tasks can be run multiple times, while others must be run only once.

The Configuration Wizard automatically runs in the language that you are currently using, if the language is supported for this purpose. Make sure that you have the correct language set at the operating system level. For more information, see About The Language in Which Siebel Installers and Wizards Run.

Keep track of which configuration tasks you have performed and which you have not yet performed. Some tasks to configure Siebel Business Applications modules or to remove configuration data have dependencies on other tasks having been performed. Removing existing configuration data is required before uninstalling particular modules.

For most Siebel CRM releases, after you perform a migration installation of the current release for Siebel Enterprise Server or SWSE, you do not have to run the Siebel Configuration Wizards again. However, new parameters are sometimes added that optimize installation and performance or enable new functionality. Also, requirements vary for different releases. In particular, after performing migration installations for Siebel Innovation Pack 2016, you must reconfigure the Siebel Web Server Extension. If you do have to run the Configuration Wizards for any reason, then you must run the wizards that were installed for the current release.

The Configuration Wizard displays in its title bar the name Siebel Configuration Wizard. The options that it displays depend on which module you are configuring. (Sometimes this guide refers to the Siebel Configuration Wizard to mean any or all of the Configuration Wizards. Or, depending on the context, this guide might instead refer to a wizard using a more specific name, such as the Siebel Server Configuration Wizard.)

The Configuration Wizard displays fields and selectable options, such as check boxes or radio buttons. Where it is available, you can click Help to display help text with more information about the settings. Which options appear, and some of the default values, depend on prior selections. Wizard tasks might branch in several different ways. The sequence of items listed in the tables in this chapter might not correspond to specific wizard tasks.

The Siebel Configuration Wizards support the initial configuration of Siebel Business Applications and also let you modify settings for an existing Siebel Enterprise. To reconfigure an existing Siebel Server, you can remove an existing Siebel Server configuration and then recreate it. Alternatively, to modify settings for an existing Siebel Enterprise or Siebel Server, you can use Siebel Server Manager. For more information, see Siebel System Administration Guide.

NOTE:  You cannot operate any Siebel Enterprise Server components until you have configured them. Also, you must be running the Siebel Gateway Name Server in order to configure the Siebel Enterprise or the Siebel Server.

The Siebel Configuration Wizards also support removing configuration data, which is a necessary part of uninstalling the Siebel Business Applications software.

NOTE:  For deployments on Oracle Database in a migration installation case, you must upgrade the Oracle Database Client to a supported version for Siebel Innovation Pack 2016, as noted in the Certifications tab on My Oracle Support. Do this after performing the migration installations.

Requirement to Reconfigure SWSE for Migration Installations

As part of performing the migration installation to the current release, you must reconfigure the Siebel Web Server Extension (SWSE). For each SWSE, do the following:

  1. Perform any necessary premigration tasks, as noted in Additional Tasks for Migration Installations.

CAUTION:  In particular, you must remove the existing SWSE configuration on the Web server computer where you installed SWSE. You must do this before you perform the migration installation for SWSE. Otherwise, the virtual directories cannot be cleaned up adequately. For more information, see Removing the SWSE Configuration.

  2. Install Siebel Enterprise Server and SWSE as a migration installation.
  3. Perform any necessary postmigration tasks, as noted in Additional Tasks for Migration Installations. For example, you must do the following:
    • (Oracle Database only) Upgrade the Oracle Database Client to a supported version for Siebel Innovation Pack 2016.
    • (Oracle Database only) Update the Oracle Database Client path in the defined environment variables.
    • Reorganize files and directories on Siebel Enterprise Server and SWSE.
    • Create a new SWSE logical profile. For more information, see Configuring the SWSE Logical Profile.
    • Apply the new SWSE logical profile on the Web server computer where you installed SWSE. For more information, see Applying the SWSE Logical Profile.
    • Restart the Web server. For more information, see Restarting the Web Server.
