Microsoft Project Import/Export Overview

You can import Microsoft Project projects into your Oracle Primavera Cloud environment and export Primavera Cloud projects for use in Microsoft Project. An integration connection to Microsoft Project is required for importing or exporting Microsoft Project data.

Import Microsoft Project Data

When you import a Microsoft Project XML file, you can create a project, update an existing project, or enable Primavera Cloud to determine which action to take based on the XML filename.

Imported data can include project settings, activities, calendars, relationships, resource assignments, and the WBS. Primavera Cloud does not import external dependencies from Microsoft Project.

Some values are translated, calculated, or determined from a combination of Microsoft Project settings rather than copied directly from a single field. For information about how Primavera Cloud determines imported values, see Understanding Microsoft Project XML Import Mapping Behavior.

Note Before you import, review the following information in Microsoft Project:

Task settings: Review whether tasks are marked as milestones and whether they have resource assignments. Also review Scheduling Ignores Resource Calendars, Task Type, Effort Driven, task durations, assigned calendars, assignment delays, and work contours. These settings can affect the resulting activity type, duration type, dates, durations, planned lag, and resource curve in Primavera Cloud.
Calendar settings: Review the working days and hours in the project and resource calendars. These settings can affect the resulting calendars, calculated work-hour values, activity dates, and durations in Primavera Cloud.
After the import is complete, review the imported project before you begin updating it. Verify the activity types, milestones, dates, durations, duration types, calendars, resource assignments, planned lag, resource curves, status values, percent complete types, and WBS hierarchy.

To import a project, you must have the required workspace security privileges to import and add projects. You must also have the required project security privilege to edit projects. You can only import one project at a time.

Export Primavera Cloud Data

During the export process, you can select a project from the workspace where you chose to export. The full list of data imported or exported between Primavera Cloud and Microsoft Project can be reviewed in the Microsoft Project Default Business Flow Reference (Oracle Primavera Cloud Help only).

To export a project, you must have the Export Projects global security privilege.

After an import is complete, review the integration details on the Manage Services page. After an export is complete, download the generated Microsoft Project XML file from the system notification.
