Monitor Role Costs on the Resource Planning Page

View role costs on the Resource Planning page to gain a better understanding of the labor costs associated with the projects in your portfolio. Role rates are defined for individual roles at the workspace level and can be set to change over time. During the resource planning process, monitor total and time-phased role costs for role demand, proposed allocation, actual allocation, and committed values. Role costs are calculated using the current role rate and time-phased labor units. Compare demand costs against allocated costs to view the impact specific roles will have on your projects. Modify role units to view the effects on the corresponding role cost field. Cost values are updated after saving your changes.

To monitor role costs:

  1. In the object selector, select a portfolio.
  2. In the sidebar, hover over Resources, and select Resource Planning.
  3. Select a scenario.
  4. Select Settings to add role cost columns and spreadsheet rows to the table.
  5. Select Apply.
  6. Use the added columns to view total role costs by project and by role. Use the added spreadsheet rows to view time-phased role costs by project and by role.

Note: Individual role rates may change over time. To ensure the current scenario is displaying the most up-to-date role costs, select Actions , and then select Recalculate Role Cost. You can also recalculate role costs for multiple scenarios at a time in the Manage Scenarios dialog box.

  7. In the Role Availability detail window, select Stacked Histogram to view role costs by project. To change the field displayed in the histogram, select Settings, and then select a field on the Chart Settings tab.
