Schedule Health Score Overview
The Schedule Health Score tool enables you to evaluate the quality of your project schedule against a set of criteria. Using common schedule analysis metrics, the tool can help to ensure compliance with corporate or industry standards. For example, you can review the critical path, confirm accurate sequencing of activities, and make sure all project milestones and deliverables are included in the schedule. Use the tool to identify problem areas in your schedule, and then consider methods to correct the issues that arise. Issues might include logic errors such as open ends, dangling activities, missing relationship logic, or unrealistic date constraints that might negatively affect your project.
Each time you run the scheduler on your current schedule, baseline, or a scenario, the tool automatically analyzes your activities and produces a score for each metric, known as a check. The check score indicates the level to which your activities are meeting the check's defined criteria. Typically, checks with a higher score require more immediate attention. Individual check scores contribute to an overall schedule health score. A higher project schedule health score indicates a higher quality schedule.
Use the tool results to identify activities that meet each check's criteria, and then adjust those activities to generate a more favorable score. Check details, including target values, weighting values, and check descriptions, can be modified in the project settings. Individual checks can be enabled or disabled according to your organization's needs. You can include schedule health score metrics in charts, dashboards, and reports. You can also export a Schedule Health Score results spreadsheet, and use it to regularly communicate schedule health findings to project managers and stakeholders for broader visibility and tracking.
