Learn what’s new and known issues with Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA.
The 12.2.1.1.0 release introduces support for Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA systems.
Oracle Database Appliance X7-2 models are built with the latest Intel Xeon processor and include increased core count and storage capacity compared to earlier models.
The following is an overview of the hardware configuration and expansion potential for each model:
Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S
10 core CPU processor
192 GB memory with expansion option to 384 GB
12.8 TB NVMe flash storage for data (raw)
Oracle Database Appliance X7-2M
Two (2) 18 core CPU processors
384 GB memory with expansion option to 768 GB
12.8 TB NVMe flash storage for data with expansion option up to 51.2 TB of data storage (raw)
Oracle Database Appliance X7-2-HA
Two (2) servers, each with two (2) 18 core CPU processors and 384 GB memory with expansion option to expand to 768 GB
3.2 TB SSD REDO storage (raw) with expansion option
16 TB SSD storage for data or flash (raw)
High capacity expansion option for up to 120 TB of usable storage
High performance expansion option for up to 51.2 TB of usable storage
If the system has five (5) or more storage devices, you can choose either Normal or High redundancy level. If you select High redundancy, then DATA, RECO, and FLASH diskgroup are all configured as High redundancy.
Web Console support for simplified configuration and deployment of X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA bare metal platforms.
Supported Oracle Database Releases:
Oracle Database 12.2.0.1 (12.2.0.1.170814)
Oracle Database 12.1.0.2 (12.1.0.2.170814)
Oracle Database 11.2.0.4 (11.2.0.4.170814)
Beginning with Oracle Database Appliance release 12.2.1.1, Oracle Database editions are defined at the database level, not the appliance level. You can use both Oracle Database Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition on the same appliance, subject to Oracle Database support and licensing requirements.
Supported Oracle Database Edition Options (subject to Oracle Database support and licensing requirements) are as follows:
Enterprise Edition for Oracle Database 12.2.0.1, 12.1.0.2, and 11.2.0.4, including support for Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC)
Standard Edition 2 for Oracle Database 12.2.0.1 and 12.1.0.2, including support for Oracle RAC and RAC One
Standard Edition One for Oracle Database 11.2.0.4, including support for Oracle RAC and RAC One
Standard Edition for Oracle Database 11.2.0.4
Support for Oracle Linux Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) virtualization on Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA bare metal platform. KVM virtualization does not offer hard partitioning.
Oracle VM Server (OVM) virtualization and a virtualized platform on Oracle Database Appliance X7-2-HA is not supported in the 12.2.1.1 release.

Server, GI Clone, Database RDBMS Clone, and ISO Image Patches
Oracle Database Appliance patches are available in My Oracle Support. When selecting a patch, ensure that you select the 12.2.1.1.0 release from the drop down box.
Oracle Database Appliance 12.2.1.1.0 Server Patch for X7 ODACLI/DCS stack: Use the server patch to update Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA components to release 12.2.1.1.0 before Oracle Database Appliance is deployed. The patch updates the Oracle Database Appliance server and DCS agent. This patch is for Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA Bare Metal platforms.
Oracle Database Appliance 12.2.1.1.0 GI Clone for ODACLI/DCS stack: Use to perform an initial deployment of Oracle Database Appliance. The bundle contains the latest Grid Infrastructure components for deployment on an Oracle Database Appliance in the "shipped from factory" state, or an Oracle Database Appliance that has been re-imaged using the OS ISO Image. This patch is for Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S, X7-2M, and X7-2-HA Bare Metal platforms.
12.2.0.1 Database: Use the Oracle 12.2.0.1.170814 RDBMS Software Clone file to create new 12.2.0.1 database homes.
12.1.0.2 Database: Use the Oracle 12.1.0.2.170814 RDBMS Software Clone file to create new 12.1.0.2 database homes.
11.2.0.4 Database: Use the Oracle 11.2.0.4.170814 RDBMS Software Clone file to create new 11.2.0.4 database homes.
(Optional) ISO Image. Use to perform a bare metal restore (re-image) of the operating system. Bare metal is a non-virtualized Oracle Database Appliance configuration. Use only when you must re-image the operating system.
Note:
Re-imaging a server using the Oracle Database Appliance ISO image installs the new OS on the local disks on that server. You must apply the SIB patch to update ILOM, BIOS, Controller, Expander, disk firmware, and other components.Related Topics
