Deploying Oracle Database Appliance Alternate Text

This alternate text topic provides text that describes the deployment section of the of the Oracle Database Appliance X6-2S/X6-2M/X6-2L poster, or booklet.

Step 1: Rack, Cable, and Connect the Network and Power

Step 1 is on page 4 of the booklet.

  • Ensure that the system hardware is set up and mounted properly. See the Oracle Database Appliance Owner’s Guide for more information.

    http://docs.oracle.com/en/engineered-systems/#oracle-database-appliance

  • Important

Follow the instructions on Page 7 to cable Oracle Database Appliance

The bullet points in the booklet are listed as numbered procedure steps in this alternate text description, for clarity. The connection procedure consists of the following steps.

    1. Connect power to the power supply unit (PSU)

    2. (Optional) Plug in the network cable for the ILOM network management

    3. Connect the keyboard and mouse to USB ports and video display to VGA port

Page 7 of the poster shows graphic illustrations of the appliances, and the ports where cables are connected. Page 8 has a table of the callout numbers and a description for each callout. In this alternate text description, the ports associated with the callouts and descriptions are listed here.

Ports listed and described by callout numbers:

  1. Power Cables

  2. ILOM net management interface port, which is labeled ILOM NET MGT on the hardware. This is a service processor 10/100/1000 Base-T network interface.

  3. (Optional) ILOM Server management interface port, which is labeled ILOM SER MGT on the hardware. This is a service Processor RJ-45 serial port.

  4. 10 gigabit Ethernet network interface port, which is labeled 10 GbE in the callout diagrams. This is a port with an RJ-45 connector (btbond1).

  5. 10 gigabit Ethernet network interface port, which is labeled 10 GbE in the callout diagram. This is a port with an RJ-45 connector (btbond2). This port is not available on Oracle Database Appliance X6-2S.

  6. (Optional) 10 gigabit Ethernet dual-rate small form-factor pluggable port, which is labeled 10 GbE dual-rate SFP+ ports in the callout diagram (sfpbond1)

Step 2: Start Up the System

Step 2 is on page 4 of the booklet. In this step, the booklet lists start up system steps using alphabetic labels (A, B). This alternate description uses numerals. Step A is 1, and step B is 2.

  1. After the green LED light labeled SP OK LED on the hardware is steady on, you start up the system by pushing the power button. The SP OK LED is marked with the callout label number 1 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the booklet. The power button is marked with the callout label number 2 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the booklet.

  2. Wait for the green LED light that is labeled Power OK to turn steady on, which indicates that the system has completed its startup procedure and is ready for deployment. The Power OK LED can blink for several minutes before it remains steady on. Do not repeatedly push the power button. The Power OK LED is marked with the callout label number 3 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the booklet.

Step 3: Plumb the Network

Step 3 is on page 5 of the booklet. The ordered bullet points in the booklet are listed as numbered procedure steps in this alternate text description, for clarity.

  1. Log in to the system as root with the password welcome1.

  2. Select your network to configure, and configure it using the command configure-firstnet

Oracle Database Appliance X6-2S has two highly available networks. Oracle Database Appliance X6-2M/X6-2L have three available networks.

Use either the 10gBase-T network interface, or the 10GbE SFP+ network interface. The following text is an example of the screen output that you see when you enter the command:

    # configure-firstnet
Select the Interface to configure the network on (btbond1 sfpbond1) [btbond1]:btbond1
    Configure DHCP on btbond1 (yes/no) [no]:no
INFO: You have chosen Static configuration
Enter the IP address to configure : 10.1.10.2

Step 4: Download the Oracle Database Appliance Software

Step 4 is on page 5 of the booklet. Copy the Oracle Database Appliance Single Instance software bundle (SIB) that you downloaded previously to Oracle Database Appliance.

Follow the instructions in My Oracle Support Note 888888.1:

http://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_afrLoop=588139847441904&id=888888.1
  • Download the latest software (Oracle Database Appliance Single Instance Bundle) file(s) to a local computer on the network.

  • Download the latest Oracle Database Appliance patch bundle, which you must apply before or after deployment, and review the README files.

Step 5: Update the Oracle Database Appliance Image

Step 5 is on page 6 of the booklet. Run the command odacli update-repository -f as the root user to update Oracle Database Appliance. Provide a path to the single instance bundle files that you copied to the server in step 4. If you copied more than one file to the server, then provide the filenames using a comma-delimited list, without a space between commas. Provide the full path and filename for each file in the list.

In the following command example, the bundle files are placed in the /tmp directory, and there are three files in the list specified by the -f flag:

#odacli update-repository -f /tmp/oda-sm-12.1.2.7.0-160518-GI-12.1.0.2.zip,/tmp/oda-sm-12.1.2.7.0-160518-DB-12.1.0.2.zip,/tmp/oda-sm-12.1.2.7.0-160518-DB-11.2.0.4.zip

Step 6: Deploy Oracle Database Appliance

Step 6 is on page 6 of the booklet. In the booklet, the steps are shown using alphabetic listing (A, B, C, and so on, instead of 1, 2, 3). This alternate text description uses numbers for clarity.

Perform the following steps to deploy Oracle Database Appliance:

  1. Type the following URL in your browser, where ip-address is the IP address that you set up in step 3:

    https://ip_address:7093/mgmt/index.html

For example, using the address 10.1.10.2 shown in step 3, enter the following command:

    https://10.1.10.2:7093/mgmt/index.html

  2. Use the following user name and password to log in to the appliance: User name: oda-admin Password: welcome1.

  3. On the Appliance page, click Deploy Appliance.

  4. Enter your configuration information for the appliance.

  5. Review your configuration.

  6. Click Submit to start the deployment.

Step 7: Monitor Deployment Progress

Step 7 is on page 6 of the booklet. You can monitor the progress of the deployment by referring to the activities tab section in the user interface.

Step 7 completes the sequence of steps to deploy Oracle Database Appliance. Page 7 of the booklet shows graphic images of the appliance hardware, and callouts labeling ports on the hardware. These ports are described in step 1. Page 8 of the booklet is intentionally left blank.
