The Service Capability Exposure Function Front End (SCEF-FE) is a product deployed in a Policy Management network that links subscribers to SCEF servers. It is a stateless Diameter message router.
The SCEF-FE server supports integration with MME and HSS servers using the Diameter T6a/T6b and S6t/S6m interfaces, respectively. SCEF-FE servers provide Diameter message routing and direct sessions to SCEF servers, which can be collected into pools. SCEF-FE servers can in effect "hide" the actual Policy Management topology to simplify interactions with MME and HSS servers.
An SCEF-FE server correlates traffic between different sessions for a subscriber ensuring that all reference points reach the same SCEF server when multiple and separately addressable SCEF servers are deployed.
Figure 1 shows a typical SCEF-FE configuration.
