Understanding PeopleSoft Online Help Accessibility

Review Navigating the PeopleSoft Online Help for information about how the PeopleSoft Online Help is structured and how to navigate between pages.

In addition, the following recommendations improve the usability of specific features in the PeopleSoft Online Help when using assistive technology.

Expandable and Collapsible Tree View

The Contents sidebar contains an expandable and collapsible tree view that enables you to navigate to all content in the online help.

Note: Only one node of the tree view is in the tab order at any time. When you first access the tree view, the top-level node is in the tab order. When you enter the tree view, you use the arrows and other keys to navigate through the tree view (as discussed later in this section). When you navigate to a help page, the node for that page remains in the tab order so when you return to the Contents sidebar, focus is on the page that you last selected in the tree view. If you navigate away from the help site or close the browser, the last visited node in the tree view retains focus when you return to the online help. If you delete the browser cookies, the focus and tab order revert to the initial settings when you first access the tree view.

You can use the following commands to navigate through the tree view using the keyboard:

Key

Action

Up Arrow and Down Arrow

Move between all visible nodes. If a node is collapsed, this moves to the next visible mode (not to the contents of the collapsed node).

Left Arrow

If the node is expanded, this collapses the node. If the node is collapsed, this moves to the parent node or the first node in the tree view.

Right Arrow

If the node is collapsed, this expands the node. If the node is expanded, this moves to the first child node, after which point you switch to the Down Arrow to move through the remaining child nodes.

Enter

If the node contains a link to a help page or an external link, this opens that page.

Any letter key

Moves to the next visible node with a title beginning with that letter. Shift + any letter key moves to the previous visible node with a title beginning with that letter.

Home

Moves to the top node in the tree view.

End

Moves to the last visible node in the tree view.

Expandable and Collapsible Sections on Help Pages

Help pages include expandable and collapsible sections that contain help content. Each Heading 2 on a help page is set up as a button that you use to expand or collapse the content following the heading. That is, the Heading 2s are also buttons. To provide instructions on how to expand or collapse sections, one of the following phrases is included at the end of each Heading 2 button label: “Press Enter to collapse” or “Press Enter to expand.”

See Using Help Pages.

At the beginning of any page, click the Skip to Main Content link to skip past the banner and Contents sidebar.

Note: This link is not visible on the pages, but it appears when you press the Tab key to move focus to the link.

Business Process Maps (BPMs)

For PeopleSoft Applications product families that provide BPM diagrams in the online help, you can select the Switch to Text-Only BPMscheck box to access text-only versions of the BPM diagrams.

See Using Text-Only BPM Pages.

User Interface Formatting

If your organization uses a locally installed help site, your help administrator can modify the delivered style sheets to change the colors and formatting of text on pages to meet specific accessibility needs. See Modifying Online Help Style Sheets.
