Managing Large Indexes

To improve overall performance of the search functionality, Oracle PeopleSoft recommends:

  • Specify the value for shards on the Search Options page.

Elasticsearch enables you to distribute the indexed data into partitions, and this distribution of indexed data into partitions is performed by Elasticsearch. It does not affect the indexing process in PeopleSoft Search Framework. The default value is 5 and it can be overridden.

  • In Elasticsearch 2.3.2, specify a separate index for large data-volume search definition.

To change which index is used for a particular search definition, select the Index Settings link on the Deploy Search Definition page for an undeployed search definition. If the index is already deployed, undeploy it before changing the settings.

See Administering Search Definitions and Search Categories.

Note: This recommendation does not apply to Elasticsearch 6.1.2 because all search definitions are by default already in separate indexes.
