Performing an OEDS Upgrade Using the Wizard

Important: Review and perform the actions described in the Requirements and Assumptions section before continuing.

Important Note: The Upgrade Wizard should not be used to upgrade from versions lower than 3.0.0e4 or 2.6.2e16. If upgrading from a version lower than these, DO NOT continue with the steps listed in this topic. You must first perform the steps described in Performing a Manual Uninstall, and then follow the steps described in Performing a New OEDS Installation.

For an upgrade installation from versions higher than 3.0.0e4 or 2.6.2e16, use the Upgrade Opera Electronic Distribution Suite file, located in the Tools folder on the OPERA Applications server. This launches the OEDS Wizard and contains the most current version. For upgrades, you MUST clear all MSMQs that are used for the OPERA GDS Interface before running the wizard. Therefore, process any Type B failed reservations using the 2C Monitor. Even though the OEDS Wizard automatically stops the services, Oracle recommends that these be manually stopped prior to running the OEDS Wizard.

To perform an OEDS upgrade installation, follow these steps:

  1. Run the OPERA Upgrade Wizard CD.
  2. After running the CD, open the \\micros\opera\tools folder (located on the application server).
  3. Locate the file called OEDS.zip and copy this file to your GDS Interface PC, or run this file from the network.
  4. Extract the contents of the OEDS.zip file to a local directory.
  5. In the local directory, locate the extracted file named Upgrade the Opera Electronic Distribution Suite.msi, and double-click on the file to launch the OEDS Upgrade Wizard. The Update Installshield Wizard for Opera Electronic Distribution Suite screen appears.
  6. Select the Next > button to continue. The Installing Opera Electronic Distribution Suite screen appears.

In addition, a series of black screens appear as part of the normal installation process. This process includes:

    • Backing up all files to a temporary location.
    • Stopping the services.
    • Uninstalling the services.
    • Setting up the new configuration files with the data from the old configuration files.
    • Deleting the temporary file location.
    • Reinstalling the services.

Note: The items listed above are done automatically.

  7. As part of the installation process, the OEDS Configuration Editor launches and takes you through the configurations required to complete the installation and ensure OPERA runs smoothly. These configurations may include information about the Oracle connection, OPERA application login, rate updates, reservation configurations, interface configurations, and so on. For information on configuring OEDS through the OEDS Configuration Editor, see OEDS Configuration Settings.
  8. Upon making all of the necessary changes in the OEDS Configuration Editor, select the Next > button. If the configuration was done as part of a new installation or an upgrade, a series of black screens appear, then the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen appears.
  9. Select the Finish button to complete the installation and exit the InstallShield Wizard.

Note: If you want to make changes to the configuration after the initial setup is complete, run the OEDS Configuration Editor, found on your desktop.
