Importing and Exporting Metrics

EnterpriseTrack allows you to import and export metric data from and to Microsoft Office Excel (MS Excel). This functionality is meant for users who want to update their metrics data in MS Excel. You must first export the EnterpriseTrack framework of your metrics to MS Excel. You can then enter your data and keep track of your metrics data in MS Excel. When you are ready to bring all your metrics data into EnterpriseTrack you can use the Import feature on the Project Metrics page.

A series of steps have to be completed in sequence before you can import metrics data into the system. You can follow the steps outlined on the Export Metrics page. These steps are further explained below.

Installing the plug-in

Before you begin, you must install the EnterpriseTrack plug-in for Microsoft® Project. This has to be done only once per client machine.

  1. Navigate to the Project Import/Export page by selecting Project Module Menu (Project #) > Go To > Import/Export, or clicking the Import/Export link within the context of a project.
  2. Click the Show button next to Downloads. Select the Download EnterpriseTrack(TM) Plug-in for Microsoft MS Project Connector link and save the file to your local drive.
  3. Run the .exe file. This will install the plug-in on your machine. When you launch MS Project, you will see an Oracle Instantis EnterpriseTrack sub-menu under the Tools menu.

Exporting Metrics

For each project, the required project and metrics information must first be exported before the updated data can be brought back into EnterpriseTrack.

  1. On the Project Metrics page click the Export button
  2. On the Export Metrics page, locate the Metrics Data File link.
  3. Right click on the link and select Save Target As from the menu.
  4. Save the file to a directory. Oracle recommends that give the file a meaningful name, e.g., metricsinfo_projectname.xml.
  5. Launch MS Excel on your machine. You should have installed the Plug-in.
  6. In MS Excel select the Import from EnterpriseTrack option from the Tools menu.
  7. A dialog box will ask you to locate the file to be imported.
  8. Browse to your template file (e.g., metricsinfo_projectname.xml) and import it.
  9. You can now update your metrics data in MS Excel.

Importing Metrics

Once you have updated the information in the metrics template using MS Excel, you can import it back into the EnterpriseTrack system.

  1. Launch MS Excel on your machine. You should already have installed the plug-in on your machine.
  2. In MS Excel, select the Export to EnterpriseTrack option from the Tools menu.
  3. Save the file to a directory. Oracle recommends that give the file a meaningful name. E.g., metricsdata_projectname.xml
  4. In your EnterpriseTrack system, navigate to the Project Metrics page within the appropriate project.
  5. On the Project Metrics page click the Import button.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the Import project metrics page and click the Browse button. Locate the file (E.g., metricsdata_projectname.xml) and import it.
  7. Your metrics data can now be viewed within EnterpriseTrack.

Note: You can use the Data Upload APIs to import multiple files at the same time. See EnterpriseTrack Integration API Reference Guide for more information.
